The XYZ domain name registry has acquired the .lat top-level domain name from ECOM-LAC Federaciòn de Latinoamèrica y el Caribe para Internet y el Comercio Electrònico (Latin American and Caribbean Federation for Internet and Electronic Commerce ). This is XYZ’s 34th top level domain.
The domain name was created for Latinos use. In the initial application, the organization stated:

.LAT is easily recognizable and has intrinsic significance as Latino-oriented and has the potential to serve as a virtual space that brings together the diverse actors that make up the Latino community.
There are approximately 5,500 .lat domains registered today, although they are managed by only 29 registrars. XYZ offers its other domains through no less than 260 registrars. With the marketing power and distribution network of XYZ, you can expect the domain base to grow in the future.
