The company behind NBA Top Shot and CryptoKitties has registered domains to keep them out of the reach of others.

NFT Dapper Labs went on a defensive domain registration spree, registering at least 300 domain names yesterday.

The company behind CryptoKitties, NBA Top Shot and the Flow blockchain has joined another NFT company, Yuga Labs, in using brand protection firm AppDetex to register domains.

It has registered domains in 3 main categories:

  • CryptoKitties domains, including, and
  • Dapper Labs brand domains, including (note the typo), and
  • Flow blockchain domains including,, and

Last month, Yuga Labs, creator of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, registered over 1,000 domain names. As I wrote then, this seems like an exercise in futility. For every domain registered by these companies, I can think of at least 10 variations someone could register to target companies.

For example, Dapper has registered, which digs pretty deep into the list of new top-level domains, but it hasn’t registered FlowCrypto .dev, .basketball, or .business.

While only 300 Dapper domains showed up in my DomainTools alert today, I checked out other variations and wouldn’t be surprised to find that it registered over 1,000 domains.

One more thing. Yesterday I wrote about how you can’t use Whois privacy for .us domains. But apparently AppDetex provides it to its customers. Don’t be surprised if the .us registry comes after them.

Here is a list of some of the Dapper Labs domains registered yesterday:
