Namecheap offers free web hosting and domain registration for Russian anti-war websites
Namecheap offers free anonymous domain registration and Web hosting to all the protests and anti-war sites in Russia or Belarus.
the domain registrar solidify tweeted the free services will be available immediately in response to a call for national war protests in Russia by Russian lawyer Alexei Navalny.
The news follows an earlier decision by Namecheap to terminate web hosting and domain services for its Russian customers following the invasion of Ukraine – the original March 6 deadline being extended for another three weeks.
Free hosting for protest sites
Namecheap said its move to offer free domain and web hosting services was to make it easier to share information online and to take action against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The company has also made exceptions for unique circumstances such as free press, news sources and essential health services.
A Namcheap spokesperson said Tech Radar Pro that the company has a significant number of team members and colleagues in Ukraine who are currently being bombed and attacked by Russia.
“In good conscience, we could no longer wait and directly or indirectly support the Russian regime by doing business there,” he added.
Russian and Belarusian customers who stand up to their diet will be able to access Nameheap’s customer service for more information.
“We all need to do what we can to stop the war crimes that are being committed every day against the innocent people of Ukraine,” said Richard Kirkendall, CEO of Namecheap.
“Our hope is that by offering these services anonymously, without conditions, that people in Russia who are currently under threat of not speaking out against this war can organize themselves and do so in a way that can minimize the reprisals. ”
